Salmon, Trout and Bass Fishing in Maine
Libby Camps fly fishing and spin fishing vacations for Maine brook trout, landlocked salmon, lakers and bass are the finest in the East. Catch and relax is our motto. This is the oldest Orvis-endorsed lodge in Maine. No detail is overlooked, which is why the same family has owned and operated these camps for five generations. Great lake-side log cabin accommodations, exceptional Maine guides, home-cooked family style meals and honest Maine service is our trademark.
The lodge’s seaplanes access 10 outpost camps and 80 canoes and boats on over 30 different waters within a 20-mile radius of camp. Three of the best wild trout rivers in Maine are within this radius, the Allagash River, Penobscot River and Aroostook River. A short flight into a remote pond or stream for the day or for an overnight at an outpost cabin is unique in the East to this lodge. Matt’s thousands of hours of flight time as a seaplane air taxi makes safety second nature.
Fishing with a guide has changed little in the last 110 years. A beginner can expect to learn the intricacies of fly fishing while catching native brookies in an untouched environment, sharing the stream with a moose, osprey or eagles, but rarely with another fisherman. An expert fishermen and guide can work at hooking one of our famous 20 inch squaretails or salmon on one of the many trophy ponds or rivers. We protect our fisheries and expect you to do the same. Wild trout to eat are taken only from select beaver ponds and streams where the stocks are overpopulated.
Access to the lodge is by seaplane or private gated gravel road. A commercial jet can leave Boston in the afternoon, meet a seaplane in Bangor and be fishing the evening hatch the same day. Variety of fishing occurs depending on daily fishing destinations, time of year, water temperatures and levels. Success depends on what is hatching, from the ice-out smelt run to the hatches of early caddis, prolific may flies, huge green drakes or a myriad of other insects and baits.
